Obituary

MORTON - Donald E. Whitten, 84, of Morton, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at home.
He was born on June 4, 1935, in Fountain Green, Ill., to Russell and Alleyne (Martin) Whitten. He married Joyce Bauer on November 23, 1958, in Cissna Park, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Tammi (Roger) Latham of Lake Worth, Fla., Tad (Paige) Whitten of Congerville, Ill., and Darin (Dana) Whitten of Rochester, Ill.; son-in-law, Dr. Thomas Wilson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Julseth of Niceville, Fla., Jason (Erin) Rechner of Springfield, Ill., Tanner (Lorin) Whitten of Oviedo, Fla., Sydney Whitten of Nashville, Tenn., and Tabitha Wilson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Penni Jo Wilson; one brother, Doyle Whitten; and one sister, Barbara McCord.
Donald was a teacher and had taught at Cissna Park High School in Cissna Park, Ill., Spoon River College in Canton, Ill., and Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Ill.
He attended Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Ill.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2020, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with Pastor Jaye Rinkenberger officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
