MORTON - Leonard L. Kindred, 88, of Morton, passed away Wed., Aug. 15, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Leonard was born on Feb. 5, 1930, in Armington, Ill., to Shannon and Gladys (Bishop) Kindred. He married Patricia Beckholt in 1958 in Chicago Heights, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia of Morton; five children, Dr. Stephen (Lisa) Kindred of Bloomington, Ill., Nancy (Michael) Scharf of Keller, Texas, Dr. David (Lynette) Kindred of Morton, Robert (Karla) Kindred of Houston, Texas, and Julia Kindred of Morton; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Eleanor Wellenwriter of Danvers, Ill., and Carol (Mel) Benson of Tremont; and one brother, Burnell (Judy) Kindred of Cape Coral, Fla.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Florine, Marjorie, and Normadel; and one brother, Wendell.
Leonard is a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.
He was employed by Caterpillar, Inc. for over 42 years and was the superintendent of building HH when he retired.
Leonard was a member of the Masonic A.F. and A.M. lodge in Morton, as well as the Scottish Right in the valley of Peoria.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Leonard was a member of Morton Christian Church where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 20, with Pastor Larry Timm officiating. Burial will be at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton, where full military rites will be conducted.
Memorials may be made to Morton Christian Church, or to Morton Ambulance.
Leonard was a loving father and enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all, including his faithful dog, Peanut.
