BARBARA J. OYER
MORTON - Barbara J. Oyer, 81, of Morton, passed away Wed., Nov. 8, 2017 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, while holding her loving husband's hands.
Barb was born Mon., Sept. 28, 1936 to Harold Sr. and Stella (Sullivan) Barnebee at Lakeside Hospital in Chicago, Ill. She married Joseph Oyer on Nov. 13, 1955 at Morton United Methodist Church where they first met in Sunday School.
Surviving are her husband Joseph of Morton; son Michael (Mary) Oyer; two grandsons, Timothy (Cynthia) Oyer and Daniel (Catherine) Oyer; and two great-grandchildren, Xavier and Mary Oyer. Also surviving are her brother Harold Jr. (Sue) Barnebee of Georgia and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; step-parents Elmer and Alida Knapp, and Keith Catchpole; and one niece and nephew.
Barb is a 1954 graduate of Morton High School. She worked at Caterpillar Morton Parts for 35 years.
She was an active member of Morton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and served on the Advisory Council. She was also an active member of Cursillo from 1980-2007. Barb served at many retreats and was passionate about speaking and being a sharing witness to Jesus Christ. For 25 years, she participated and spoke at prison ministry retreats in both state and federal institutions helping to bring the Word of Christ to those most in need. She was also a member of the DAR.
She dearly loved spending time with her husband, son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was fond of dancing and music. One of her favorite things was traveling in their RV around the country with her family. She enjoyed raising her kitties and missed them tremendously when they passed.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:45 a.m., on Tues., Nov. 14, 2017, at Morton United Methodist Church in Morton with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. Rev. Gary Feldman will officiate the service. A private burial service for the family will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Morton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morton United Methodist Church Building Fund.
