MORTON - Calvin J. Stidman, Sr., 91, of Morton, passed away Mon., Sept. 24, 2018, at Aperion Care Morton Terrace.
Calvin was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Grubbs, Ark., to Vernie and Cora (Johnson) Stidman. He married B. Rose Johnson on Sept. 26, 1949, in Walnut Ridge, Ark. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2010. Calvin was also preceded in death by his great-grandson; son-in-law, David Mathis; one brother and one sister.
Surviving are his son, Joe (Linda) Stidman of Morton; his daughter, Penny Mathis of North Pekin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Calvin served in the United States Army during World War II.
He worked second shift for the Peoria Journal Star and retired while working in the composing room. He then worked at his daughter's restaurant, "Penny's" in Morton for 16 years.
Calvin was an avid bowler and was a member of several area bowling leagues. He and his wife were charter members of Twin Oaks Baptist Church in East Peoria.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 27, 2018, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton with a visitation held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
