MORTON – G. Carol Schmitt, 82, of Morton, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at Manor Court Liberty Village in Peoria, Ill.
She was born on April 2, 1939, in Chicago, Ill., to Arabella Owens. She married Duane Schmitt on March 2, 1957, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on February 4, 2015.
She was a loving mother to Kathy Schmitt of Morton, Mary Ann (Joe) Mulay of Dunlap, Chris (Diane) Schmitt of East Peoria, Dave Schmitt of Surprise, Ariz., Nancy (Kevin) DeWitt of Prescott Valley, Ariz. and Matt (Anna) Schmitt of Peoria, Ill.; and grandmother to Michael, Ashlee, Christopher Jr., Kimberlee, Sarah, McKenna, Andrew, Matthew Jr., AvaLynn, Maygen, Kyle and Julia; and great grandmother to Braeleigh.
Carol was a dedicated farm wife for over 50 years, participating in the Farm Bureau Women’s Marketing Group. She was a school bus driver for Morton School District 709 for 43 years, retiring in 2009. Carol was also an independent Usborne Books distributor for many years.
Carol was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, where she was a past president of the Altar and Rosary Society and a member of Cursillo 669.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, with Msgr. Gerald Ward officiating and will also be live streamed via the church Facebook profile at
https://www.facebook.com/Blessed-Sacrament-Catholic-Church-Morton-Illinois-1621013384782666. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. and Thursday, June 10 from 10 to 10:45 a.m., both at the church. Following the Mass, cremation rites will be accorded with the burial of the cremated remains at 10 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
