MORTON - Catherine "Kay" Fuoss, 96, of Morton, passed away Sun., Sept. 9, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Kay was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Hardburly, Ky., to Nicholas and Barbara (Jugovich) Vukelich. She married Vincent Fuoss on April 17, 1942 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 2004. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Natalie Fuoss, along with two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are one son, Mike (Lori) Fuoss of Tremont, Ill.; one daughter, Kathy (David) Hubner of Wheaton, Ill.; five grandchildren, Krista (Marco) Schmidt, Holly (Carlos) Schmidt-Villota, Julie (Jeremy) Cunningham, Joel (Melissa) Fuoss, and Laurel Fuoss; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Louise Tancibok of Ireland, and many nieces and nephews.
Kay was a city girl who proudly became a farmer's wife. She and her husband enjoyed raising their family in Thawville, Ill. Kay was a devoted and dedicated homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family. Her family especially enjoyed her cooking. It was important to Kay to cook meals for her family even using plants she had grown in her garden. She was actively involved in her community and held many different leadership positions throughout her lifetime.
In 1982, Kay and Vin relocated to Brooksville, Fla., where they enjoyed their retirement. While living in Florida, Kay became an avid golfer. She moved back to Morton in 2009 and enjoyed her time living at Brandon Wood Retirement Center. She and her family were very thankful for the care she received while living there and were especially grateful for Kay, Penny, Sharon, Cassie, Shannon, and the TLC caregivers.
She was also an active member of Thawville Congregational Church in Thawville, Ill., where a visitation will be held on Fri., Sept. 14, 2018 from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Tom Jones officiating. Burial will be at Thawville Cemetery in Thawville.
Memorial donations may be made to Thawville Congregational Church, National Federation of the Blind, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
