Morton - Charles F. "Chuck" "Charley" Dirst, 87, of Morton, passed away Friday, August 10, 2018, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
Charles was born April 22, 1931, in Morris, Ill., to Paul and Ella (Knudson) Dirst. He married Loretta Collman on Oct. 13, 1957, in Yorkville, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Loretta Dirst, of Morton; four children, Philip Dirst, of Atlanta, GA, Julie (Mike Shane) Shane, of Morton, Matthew (Sixto Wagan) Dirst, of Houston, Texas, and Emily (Tony) LaCivita, of Downers Grove, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Alexander Dirst, Jeff (Kirsten) Shane, Kevin and Alex Shane, Katy, Joe and Charley LaCivita; one brother, James Dirst of Yorkville, Ill.; one sister, Carol Dauwalder, of Plainfield, Ill.; and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dirst, of South Bend, Ind.
He was preceded in death by five brothers.
Chuck served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954.
After serving in the Air Force, he graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting.
Chuck worked for Caterpillar for 33 years from 1957 to 1990. He worked in both Aurora and Peoria in management.
After retiring, Chuck enjoyed playing golf and traveling with Loretta to places all over the world.
He was a member of the Advent Lutheran Church in Morton and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Yorkville, Ill.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tues., August 14, 2018, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wed., Aug. 15, at Advent Lutheran Church, in Morton, with Pastor Barbara Ziah and Pastor David Russell officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
Burial will be at Roberts Cemetery in Morton, where full military rites will be conducted.
Memorials may be made to Advent Lutheran Church.
