Charles L. Wilkerson
Washington - Charles L. "Chuck" Wilkerson, 90, of Washington, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Chuck was born on April 28, 1928, in Benton, Ill., to Orville and Letha (Fiveash) Wilkerson. He married Shirley Summers on Dec. 10, 1949, in Benton. She passed away on Dec. 22, 1978. Chuck then later married Evelyn (Herchenhahn) Daniel on July 7, 1984.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn "Puchie" Wilkerson of Washington; his three children, Alanna (Rod) Dunehew of Morton, Brian (Vanessa) Wilkerson of Texas and Paige (Delmar) Ballinger of Springfield; and Shari Wilkerson of Morton; four grandchildren, Heather (Ying) Chen, J.D. Dunehew, Erin (Brandon) Parod and Elisha (Patrick) Sharpe; seven great- grandchildren, Kaileigh and Raighean Chen, Dylan and Julia Parod, Luke, Ryan and Benjamin Sharpe; five step-children, Phil (Deb) Daniel, Billy (Sheri) Daniel, Greg (Lori) Daniel, Tracy (Jani) Daniel and Misha (Doug) Meeks; 12 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Alan Wilkerson; one sister, Kathleen Sanders and four brothers, Raymond, Eugene, William and James Wilkerson.
Chuck is a United States Navy veteran, having served from Sept. 12, 1945 to April 28, 1949, on ships USS Pennsylvania, USS Rockwall, USS Astroria, USS Columbus and USS Albany.
He was a welder at Caterpillar for 40 years, retiring from the proving grounds in 1991.
Chuck was a member and served as a deacon at Morton Assembly of God Church. Later, he became a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria, where services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018, with Pastor Fred Doughty officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, where full military rites will be conducted.
Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
