MORTON – Christine L. “Chris” Kath, 74, of Morton, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, surrounded by her brother and his family.
She was born on February 11, 1948, in Peoria, Ill., to Robert and Virginia (Huser) Ulrich. She married the love of her life, Carl Kath, in Morton, Ill., on June 20, 1981. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2021. She missed him so much and talked about him every day.
Surviving are her brother, Kurt (Lori) Ulrich of Morton; two nieces, Danielle (Eric) Schmidgall of Morton and Brooke (Jared) Craig of East Peoria; great nephew, Macoy Schmidgall; great nieces, Manning and Monroe Schmidgall and Reagan Craig; grandson, Cameron; and her beloved dog, Isabell.
As a young woman, she was an honored queen in the International Order of Jobs Daughters.
Chris worked for the Morton Post Office as a carrier and postal clerk for 26 years, retiring in 1992. She also worked closely with her husband, Carl, to create a successful business, Kath Trucking. She was a member of Mid-West Truckers Association.
Chris loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious treats to share. She often would show up with a pie or loaf of banana bread “just because”.
Every Christmas, Chris baked over 100 dozen cookies and many pies for family, friends, and business associates. Her annual Christmas cookie exchange was looked forward to by many. We hope to continue this tradition.
She was a skilled seamstress, quilter and avid crocheter, participating in numerous craft shows throughout the year.
In their retirement years, Chris and Carl enjoyed spending winters at their condo in Ft. Myers Beach, Fla. She loved walking on the beach.
Her vivacious and giving spirit will be missed by so many. She was a true angel on Earth who was always giving and helping others. We will treasure all the laughs and memories we have had with Chris.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton.
A private funeral service will be held.
Family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Runner’s Association and can be mailed to Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 140 Detroit Ave., Morton IL 61550.
