Clarence Tohn

OHIO – Clarence G. “Clancy” Tohn, 101, died March 22, 2023 in Westerville, Ohio, formerly of Peoria, Ill.  He was born March 21, 1922, in East Peoria, the son of Clarence G. Tohn and Minnie (Hufeld) Tohn.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Maryon and son, Ronald Clarence Tohn.

Surviving are his daughter, Diane (Tohn) Lane and her husband, David Lane of Hilliard, Ohio; granddaughters, Jennifer (Lane) Williams and husband, John (Jay) Williams of Franklin, Tenn., Melissa (Lane) Hatfield and husband, Bill of Houston, Texas; six great grandchildren, Lillian Williams, Breyden Hatfield, Lane Williams, Sydney Hatfield, Luke Williams, and Logan Williams.

Clancy graduated from Peoria Central High School. He attended Bradley University and graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. Clancy served with the Navy SEABEES during World War ll.

After the war, Clancy married his high school sweetheart, Maryon Leary. They celebrated 61 years of marriage having two children, Diane and Ron.

He was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 40 years. Clancy was a plant engineer and finished his career traveling the world as the corporate engineer.

He was an avid athlete in high school track and football.  Clancy held the state of Illinois record in discuss for two years. At the collegiate level, he played football four years.  After he retired, Clancy took lessons and learned to play the organ. Traveling and fishing in Canada were his hobbies.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria, with Msgr. Gerald Ward officiating. Visitation will be from 11 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the mausoleum. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
