MORTON– Garland “Dean” Shull, 90, of Morton, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
He was born on January 19, 1933, in Lincoln, Ill., to Garland and Clara (Broch) Shull. Dean married Beverly Ann Reinhart on July 3, 1955, in Waynesville, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly Shull of Morton; one son, Doug (Angie) Shull of Morton; two daughters, Jill (Brad) Williamson of Washington and Tammy (Darren) Martin of Morton; nephew, Stuart (Kim) Finley of Morton and niece, Linn (Ramie Melvin) Zander of Mt. Horeb, Wisc., who were raised by Dean and Bev following the death of Dean’s sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Bill Finley; 13 grandchildren, Phil (Stacey) Munoz, Damon Munoz, Sarah (Kyle) Mettelmann, Marisa Williamson, Brennan Martin, Bailey Martin, Tyson Martin, Heather (Rick) Urquizo, Amber Finley, Brittany Zander, Trent Zander, Taylor Zander and Taytem Zander; eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Don (Sandy) Shull of Middletown, Ill., Larry (Marilyn) Shull of Red Bud, Ill. and Lloyd (Debbie) Shull of Mesa Ariz.
Dean was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War.
He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1990.
Dean loved his family well and was a great teacher of life. He enjoyed traveling, boating, golfing, and spending time in Florida while maintaining his pristine yard.
He was a 67-year member of Morton United Methodist Church, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2023, with Pastor Bill Novak and Pastor Derek Henricks officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Further visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Hirstein Cemetery in Morton, where military rites will be conducted.
Memorials may be made to Morton United Methodist Church Building Fund.
