DIANA GILLIGAN
GROVELAND - Diana Jean Gilligan, 77, of Groveland, passed away unexpectedly due to natural causes on Thurs., April 5, 2018.
She was born on Jan. 5, 1941, in Kewanee, Ill., to hard-working parents, Leo and Elizabeth (Euchaski) Draminski, who preceded her in death. She was raised to always work hard, do her best, and be honest.
She married the love of her life, Dr. John F. "Jack" Gilligan on Dec. 15, 1978, in Groveland. Together they enjoyed traveling, savoring Diana's gourmet meals, sharing their thoughts, spending time with family and friends, and watching University of Notre Dame football games.
She leaves behind a very proud family who will miss her greatly; her husband, Jack of Groveland; one son, Jack (Leslie) Baugh of East Peoria; one daughter, Debbie (Steve) Martin of Morton; four grandchildren, Brian (Kelly) Baugh, Michael Baugh, Connor Martin, and Megan Martin; one sister, Carol (Charlie) Will of Chillicothe; and two nieces, Christina Yates and Cathy (John) Watkins; and several cousins.
Diana loved school and excelled in it. She graduated with honors from Wethersfield High School in Kewanee and St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria. Later, she went on and earned her BA from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, followed by an MBA from the University of Illinois, again with honors.
Over the years, Diana made many people's lives better with her skills. She worked at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria as a Registered Nurse, worked as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse at both Peoria State Hospital in Bartonville and Tazwood Mental Health Center in Pekin, and was a Unit Director at Zeller Mental Health Center in Peoria.
Diana was exceptionally selfless, caring, and compassionate, with a good sense of humor; therefore, her favorite "job" was being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, mentor and friend to others. She treasured spending time with and helping her family, giving to, and helping others. She was a true matriarch and a moral compass for all by being a shining example. Diana was a beautiful soul, and the world will be a little less bright without her.
She was an avid photographer, gourmet cook, an outstanding writer, and a gifted accordion player and singer. She made amazing meals and treats for her family and others. She enjoyed music, research, photography, home decorating and remodeling, landscaping, and flowers, especially tulips. Diana liked playing basketball, tennis, bowling, frisbee, and other games, and was a fan of Notre Dame University and a follower of Bradley basketball. Diana was also a member and Honorary Engineer of the River City Model Railroad Club.
Diana was a devout Catholic and in her younger years attended Visitation Church in Kewanee. Later, she attended St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Peoria. She is a current member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, where a funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, with Msgr. Gerald Ward and Fr. James Connelly, CSC officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Further visitation will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m., Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
