DONALD G. ARENDS
PEORIA - Donald G. Arends, 88, of Peoria, formerly of Morton, passed away Sat., Aug. 12, 2017 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. Donald was born July 15, 1929, in Melvin, Ill., to Gilbert and Edna (Defries) Arends. He married Margery Stuckey on July 25, 1954 in Piper City, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Margery Arends of Peoria; two sons, Scot Arends of East Peoria and John (Sandra) Arends of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Margo (Greg) Folley of Peoria; and four grandchildren, Ava Arends and Jack Arends, both of Austin and Chase Klaus and Abby Klaus, both of Peoria. Donald is also survived by one brother, Erwin (Linda) Arends of Decatur.
Donald is a 1951 graduate of University of Illinois, where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree.
He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria from 1951 to 1972 as a Product Development Engineer. While working at Caterpillar, he also served as a board member of the East Peoria School District, serving 3 years as president. From 1972 to 1978, Donald owned and operated a John Deere Implement in Watseka, Ill. In 1978, he returned to Caterpillar and finished his career in product development. In retirement, he continued to stay busy working the family farm in Melvin, Ill.
Donald attended the Morton United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed teaching his children to water ski. While Don was a doting father, he was also especially proud of his 4 grandchildren and never missed a chance to nurture them as they matured. Through the grandchildren, he came to appreciate the game of tennis. He especially enjoyed seeing his grandkids win a highly competitive tennis match. He had a passion for fixing things and was always willing to help his family and friends in times of need.

Cremation rites have been accorded.
A private family memorial service will be held to celebrate Donald's life.
Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation center in Morton is handling arrangements.
