MORTON - Donald D. Poole, a good and faithful servant, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 10, 2019.
Don was born October 19, 1940, in Forest River, ND to William Warren and Clara (Siverson) Poole. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Judy, for 53 years; a loving father to his three children, Donna (Paul) Uhlman of Morton, Linda (Todd) Weidner of Sioux Falls, SD, and Michael (Lisa) Poole of Charlotte, NC; a proud grandpa to his 11 grandkids, Jacob Uhlman, Ashley (Josiah) Rosenberger, Hayley (Matt) Reed, Brianna Uhlman, Caleb Uhlman; Jordan, Ben, Holly and Sam Weidner; Maddie and Grace Poole; and his two great granddaughters Opal and Wren Rosenberger; also a caring brother to his sister, Kathleen (Dr. Henry) Fischer of Littleton, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Bob, Dorothy, Jack, Pat, Dick and Sharon; and grandson Daniel Uhlman.
He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving in Korea for four years during the Vietnam War time. Don worked at IBM for 40 years in the service division, retiring in 2004 as the branch manager for Central Illinois. He was a devoted member of Morton United Methodist Church for over 36 years, where he served on several church committees, the United Methodist Men and the church choir.
Don was a true family man who enjoyed spending time with those he loved whether they were family or friends who soon became family. Many great memories were made while vacationing, during holiday celebrations, having cookouts on the deck, tending his roses and garden, and wintering in Florida. Don had an especially soft spot in his heart for the many "grand-dogs" in his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2019, at Morton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Gary L. Feldman and Pastor Gabe Wanck officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 15 and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service Friday, both at the church. Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Morton United Methodist Church Building Fund.
