METAMORA – Donald W. “Don” Schmidgall, 92, of Metamora, formerly of rural Morton, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021, at Snyder Village in Metamora.

He was born on December 17, 1928, in rural Morton, Ill., to George and Lydia (Herberger) Schmidgall. He married June Bond on September 5, 1954. She preceded him in death on April 15, 2019.

Surviving are one daughter, Pat (Myron) Graber of Secor; two sons, Alan Schmidgall of Port St. Lucie, Fla. and Scott (Laura) Schmidgall of Deer Creek; five grandsons, Adam (Ashley) Graber, Andy (Emily) Graber, Brad (Katie) Schmidgall, Eric (Danielle) Schmidgall and Matt (Erika) Schmidgall; and 10 great grandchildren, Tyler, Natalie, Zachary and Ben Graber and Manning, Macoy, Madison, Monroe, Mackenzie and Henley Schmidgall.

Don was a fourth generation farmer on his family’s farm in rural Morton his entire life, until retiring in 2003. He was a hard worker who enjoyed planting and harvesting alongside his father and sons on the family farm. Don took great pride in farming, and passed that legacy on to his son, Scott.

In 2011, he and June moved to Snyder Village Retirement Community where he enjoyed sitting on his porch visiting with neighbors. Recently, he enjoyed participating in activities as a resident at Snyder Health Center.

He was a member of the Tazewell County Farm Bureau and the Deer Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

A private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memory Gardens with Myron Graber officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Snyder Village or a charity of the donor’s choice.
