ELBERT E. "ED" COWEN
EAST PEORIA - Elbert Edward "Ed" Cowen, 79, of East Peoria, went to his heavenly home on Sun., Feb. 4, 2018, at his residence surrounded by family.
Ed was born Jan. 22, 1939, in Elkland, Mo., to Elbert and Audrey (Graves) Cowen. He married Lois May Bowden on May 26, 1962 in Elkland. She survives.
In addition to his loving wife, Ed is survived by five children, Kimberly Cowen, Jacqueline (Michael) Kunz, Amy Cowen, James (Deanna) Cowen, and Jason (Jennifer) Cowen; 10 grandchildren, Ashley (Andrew) Healy, Nathaniel Kunz, Kolten Cowen, Olivia Cowen, Morgan Cowen, Emma Cowen, Meghan Cowen, Magge Cowen, Sophia Cowen, and Luke Cowen. He is also survived by one brother, Bill Cowen and one sister, Gladys Hartwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother James Cowen, and sister Loretta Hartwell.
Having always loved his country, Ed was proud to be an Army veteran.
Ed worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 37 years, retiring in 2001.
Anyone who knew Ed was aware he always had a story to tell. He was never too busy to help anyone in need and loved making people laugh. If you are unaware of how wonderful his family was to Ed, then you probably never had the pleasure of meeting him.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Fri., Feb. 9, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Morton, with ministers of the church officiating. Visitation will also be held at the church Thurs., Feb. 8, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. with an additional visitation held prior to the service on Fri. from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Burial will be held at Roberts Cemetery in Morton, where full military rites will be conducted.
Memorials may be made to Youth Program at the First Baptist Church of Morton.
