MORTON – Gloria Andrews (Ries), 97, of Morton, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
Gloria was born August 8, 1926, in Minneapolis, MN to Walter and Mary (Thielen) Ries. She married Ray Andrews on June 17, 1950.
Surviving are her brother, William Ries; six children, Charles (Elin Quigley), Douglas (Maureen Murphy), John, Mary (Tim) Johnson, Barbara (Scott) Briel, Joseph (Debbie) Andrews; 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ray.
Gloria was a woman of faith, a loving wife, sister, mother, caring friend and an inspiration to all who knew her. The inseparable bond between Gloria and Ray left no doubt that in their marriage, the two had truly become one. Hers was a life of service to others. She was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 50 years. For many years she was a volunteer at Meals on Wheels and We Care of Morton. She was forever working on a project while dreaming of her next project. She was a master quilter and created gorgeous hand pieced and hand quilted wedding quilts for each of her grandchildren. Gloria passed down her love of sewing, crafting, gardening and cooking to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the outdoors; biking through Door County, cross country skiing in the north woods or simply enjoying the beauty of her garden paradise with family and friends. Most of all she cherished time with family while her family cherished their time with her even more.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, with Fr. Adam Cesarek officiating. Visitation will be from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
