PEORIA – Harold J. Crabtree, 92, of Peoria, formerly of Morton, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at his home at Villas of Hollybrook in Peoria.
He was born on February 22, 1929, in Peoria, Ill., to Martin and Mildred (Yates) Crabtree. He married Barbara Folkers in Peoria, Ill., in 1949. She preceded him in death in July 2000. He then married Verena Comer Carr, in Morton, Ill., on February 17, 2001.
Surviving are his wife, Verena Crabtree of Peoria; daughters, Deb Austin of Metamora and Virginia “Ginny” (Dave) Molleck of Chillicothe; step-children, Nancy Harris of Morton and Peggy (David) Wickert of Pekin; three grandchildren, Joe Molleck, Mike Molleck, Jeff Molleck; seven step-grandchildren, Jon Pierce, James Harris, Ashley Jones, Brandy Woody, Jessica Harris, Houston Wickert, and Dakota Wickert; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Giles Crabtree.
Harold was a veteran of the US Navy Reserves from 1950 to 1953. He worked as a brick mason for over 20 years and was a machine operator at Caterpillar, Inc. for 22 years, retiring in 1991.
Harold was a member of First Baptist Church in Morton, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, with Rev. Dr. Richard Shaw officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at the church, prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will be at Mt. Hawley Cemetery in Peoria.
