MORTON - Jacqueline June (Sutter) Petersen, 85, of Morton, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
She was born June 27, 1932, in Tazewell County, to Lester (Les) and Mary (Schmallenberger) Sutter, Sr. Jackie married E. Robert Petersen on March 28, 1953, in Pekin. She was by his side as he pastored churches in North Dakota, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, and Colorado. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 2012.
Surviving are her two sons, Daniel (Kathy) Petersen of Cameroon, Africa and James (Sally) Petersen of Shelton, Wash.; one daughter, Janette (Mike) Poppin of Huntsville, Ala.; nine dear grandchildren; 3.5 great-grandchildren; one dear brother, Les (Elaine) Sutter, Jr.
When Jackie had nearly raised her family, she went back to school to receive her Bachelor and Master's degrees in Speech Pathology from Northern Illinois University and The University of Iowa, respectively. She taught Speech Therapy in the public schools and surrounding areas of Iowa City, Iowa, and was a member of the American Speech Hearing Language Association.
Jackie and Bob retired in 1989, and moved to their beloved Rocky Mountains in Colorado before moving to Morton to be near family.
She was a member of Grace Church in Morton.
A private family graveside service will be held at Groveland Mennonite Church Cemetery with Pastor Doug Habegger officiating.
Memorials may be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators or MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship).
