James H. Alexander

MORTON - James H. Alexander, 81, of Morton, passed away Wed., Aug. 29, 2018, at Heartland Health Care Center - Riverview in East Peoria.
James was born March 25, 1937, to James and Doral (Hilgert) Alexander. On July 2, 1960, he married Mary Lou Hargadine in Pekin. He later married Juanita Howard on Nov. 4, 1972, in Morton. She preceded James in death on Aug. 23, 2015.
Surviving are two daughters, Audra (Matt) Moore of Mapleton, Ill., and Kim (Randolph) Merritt of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and five grandchildren, Aaron and Alexander Callen and Matthew, Christopher, and Shelbie Moore.
James is a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served from 1956 to 1959. James worked as an administrative clerk and played on the baseball team during his service.
He worked on the assembly line at Caterpillar, Inc., retiring in 1999, and was a member of UAW - Local 974.
He attended and was also a member of the Groveland Missionary Church. James was a member of the Masonic Lodge #1170 in Creve Coeur.
James enjoyed spending time outdoors at the Hanna City Sportsman's Club. He was especially fond of hunting and fishing.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 4, 2018 at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A Masonic Service will take place directly following the visitation at the funeral home. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., on Wed., Sept. 5, at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, Ill., with Rev. Ron George officiating. Full military funeral honors will be conducted at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Illinois Spina Bifida Association.
