MORTON – James E. “Jim” Ingold, 80, of Morton, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022, at Hopedale Nursing Home in Hopedale, Ill.

He was born on July 29, 1941, in Peoria, Ill., to Clarence and Edith (Irion) Ingold. He married Cynthia Ackerman in Washington, Ill., on August 26, 1962. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2021. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Jacob Ingold; and one nephew, Tracy Hirstein.

Surviving are his son, Bill (Kristie) Ingold of Morton; daughter, Laurel (Don) Grant of Morton; three grandchildren, J.C. (Lyndsie) Ingold, Jordan (Jake) Kirk, and Isaac Ingold; four great-grandchildren, Cohen and Hayden Ingold and Jane and Claire Kirk; sister, Jo Ann (Gerry) Chojnowski of Venice, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Ackerman of Temple, Texas.

Jim graduated high school in 1959. He attended Memphis State University where he played basketball and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education. He taught and coached basketball at Woodruff High School most of his career and finished teaching at Blaine Sumner Middle School.

Jim was a lifelong farmer and was proud of the fact that he still lived on the family farm, which was established in 1876.

He was a member of the Deer Creek Methodist Church and was also a member or the Morton Park District Board for 40 years.

Jim enjoyed playing golf and morning coffee with the Busy Corner Breakfast Club.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A private family graveside service will be held at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, with Pastor Danny Cox officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Runners Association.
