MORTON – Jane Louise Clements, 92, of Morton, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, following a long illness.
Jane was born on December 13, 1929, in Charleston, Ill., to Leo C. and Lois E. (Brown) Baker. She married Thomas E. Clements on Dec. 9, 1952, in Charleston, Ill. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her two daughters, Mary E. and Ann L. Clements.
Surviving is her son, Thomas A. Clements of Hammond, Ind.; and two grandsons, Thomas P. Clements of Nashville, Tenn. and John A. Clements of Chicago, Ill.
Jane graduated from Eastern Illinois State Teachers College with degrees in music and art. She then had a long career as a teacher, starting after college as a high school band director and music teacher. Jane later developed an interest in reading education, earning a Master’s degree in education, and worked in various junior high and high schools teaching reading and starting reading laboratories. She most recently worked for the Morton United School District 709 as a reading specialist at Lincoln Elementary School.
After retiring, Jane continued in the private tutoring of children of all ages. She was an early adopter of home computers and created a number of learning applications for child education. She will be remembered for her life-long devotion to learning and education.
Jane was a member of the Morton United Methodist Church, where she was involved with Hannah Circle, a Bible quiz writer in Footprints, and the Morton United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Delta Zeta Society.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A private family graveside will be held at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
