MORTON - John B. Gurbal, 76, of Morton, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at his home.
John was born June 28, 1942, in Aurora, Ill., to John and Marie (Franzen) Gurbal. He married Margaret LeMasters on April 2, 1969, in Aurora, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Gurbal of Morton; one son, Greg J. Gurbal of Pekin; two sisters, Mary Ann (Gurbal) Armbruster of Peoria and Patricia (Gurbal) Scott of Aurora, Ill.; and one brother, Daniel (Peggy) Gurbal of Geneva, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Margaret "Peg" Gurbal; one brother, David Gurbal and two brothers-in-law, John Armbruster and Phillip Scott.
John attended Aurora University and Waubonsee Community College. He was a computer programmer. John worked for Lyon Metal Products Inc. in Montgomery, Ill., Molex Inc. in Naperville, Ill. and retired from Magellan Technologies Inc. in Peoria, Ill.
John was an avid model railroader, especially Burlington Northern. He was a computer guru who loved to program one sentence executable programs and refined them down to as a few commands as possible. John was a watercolor painter. Many of his works have graced his home over the years. He enjoyed music of all kinds and listened to music every day.
John was a member of Kennel Lake Sportsman's Club, where he was an avid fisherman.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
