MORTON - John R. Hogan, 89, of Morton, passed away Mon., March 5, 2018 at UnityPoint Health - Proctor in Peoria.
John was born July 27, 1928 in Dearborn, Mich., to James E. and Modena (Raley) Hogan. He married Anne E. Hassett on Feb. 7, 1953 in Great Barrington, Mass. She preceded John in death in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his son Timothy in 1955, and two brothers Pat and Jerry.
Surviving are two sons and daughters of the heart, Jim and Yvette Hogan of Tremont, and Mike and Nancy Hogan of Kankakee; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Korish, Amy (Aaron) Potacki, and John (Morgan Houde) Hogan; and 10 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Claire Potacki, Josie, Julianne, and Joseph Korish, Maddy and Lilly Hogan, Kayden Roach, and M of his heart. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
John served in the United States Navy as a pilot.
He is a graduate of Bradley University. John was a loyal employee of Caterpillar, Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a "SUPER" grandpa who enjoyed reading stories over and over, getting on the floor and playing with blocks, and throwing a ball endlessly. He was proud of the artwork the grandchildren left behind on his driveway with chalk and enjoyed spoiling them with ice cream and cookies that he stashed away for their visits.
To show his support and love, he would often Facetime with his family. He looked forward to attending the grandchildren's performances and could always be found cheering for his family and congratulating them on their successes. His family could always count on him to be a listening ear to their frustrations. He was a gentle giant to his wife, Anne, his children, and to all who knew him.
He cared for and loved dogs. Most recently, the dog of his heart was Penny.

John was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton where a Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Fri. March 9, 2018, with Msgr. Gerald Ward officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 10 to 10:45 a.m., at the church. Burial will be at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
