John "Mike" Luthy

MORTON – John Michael "Mike" Luthy, 79, of Morton, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022, at his home.

He was born on September 15, 1942, in Peoria, Ill., to Godfrey "Fritz" and Marjorie (Fennell) Luthy. He married

Cheryl Warren on August 3, 1963, and they later divorced. Mike then married Carolyn (Babler) Fiene on September 12, 1981, in Morton.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Luthy of Morton; two sons, Steven (Lois) Luthy of Maryville, Ill. and Scott (Karen) Luthy of St. Louis, Mo.; two stepsons, Jeffrey Fiene of Glendale, Ariz. and James Fiene of San Mateo, Calif.; 3 grandsons, Zachary (Rachel) Luthy, Joshua Luthy, and Jacob Luthy; and one step-granddaughter, Christina (Al) Carretta.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Brenda Fiene.

Mike graduated from Manual Training High School in Peoria (Class of "60"). He served in the United States Air Force from September 1960 to September 1964. Mike then worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company from November of 1964 to November 1997, retiring as a skilled trades machinist.

He enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing, target shooting, golf, and traveling. Mike sang in the Central Illinois Memorial Kidney Fund (CIMKF) chorus and the Philharmonic Chorale.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Mike was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church in Morton, where a memorial service with military rites will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022, with Father John Richmond officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service at the church. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the memorial service on Friday, at Seasons Gastropub, 149 S. Main St, Morton. Burial of cremated remains will be at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
