CHICAGO - Julia (Hohulin) Slick, 74, of Chicago, passed away peacefully in her Chicago home Sunday, January 27, 2019.
Julia was born April 3, 1944, in Peoria, Ill., to Lawrence and Laura (Leman) Hohulin.
Julia is survived by one brother, Bruce (Charlene) Hohulin of Morton; two sisters, Marge (Tom) Helgoth of Lake Mary, Fla. and Joan (Mark) Steffen of Goodfield, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
Julia spent much of her professional career in education, earning a bachelor's degree from Illinois State University and a master's from Drake University. She began as a kindergarten teacher, went on to work as a consultant for school administrators, and eventually served in an executive role for several colleges, including the Chicago Academy of Design and Technology and the Virginia Beach and Newport News Campus of ECPI College of Technology. In addition, she was an executive with the Career Education Corporation. After retirement, she continued to volunteer at the Art Institute, the Lurie Children's Hospital and in the classroom.
Julia was an especially devoted aunt and great aunt. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews and their children, who will miss her greatly. Her friends and family valued Julia as a woman of sophistication and style who loved to laugh, learn, and express her many opinions.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Fri., Feb. 1, 2019, and from 9 to 9:45 Sat. Feb. 2, both at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A funeral service will be held Sat., Feb. 2, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Goodfield Apostolic Christian ministers officiating. Burial will be in Goodfield/Congerville Apostolic Christian Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.
