MORTON – Kathryn J. “Kathy” Churchill, 71, of Morton, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.
She was born on February 4, 1951, in Macomb, Ill., to Sterling and Kathryn (Burgland) Simpson. Kathy married Samuel Churchill on December 19, 1976, in Macomb.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel Churchill of Morton; two sons, Daniel (Brent) Churchill of Chicago and Thomas Churchill of Morton; two sisters, Judy Peterson of Galesburg, Ill. and Marilyn (David) Formhals of Morton; one brother, David (Carol) Simpson of Galesburg; two brothers-in-law, John (JoAnne) Churchill and Jim (Sue) Churchill; and one sister-in-law, Elaine Churchill. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by both parents; one infant brother; and two brothers-in-law, Jerry Churchill and Milt Peterson.
Kathy was a member of the Morton United Methodist Church where she was a part of the Care/Prayer Team, Hannah Circle and also volunteered in the church office. She was the former Lay Delegate to the annual conference.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association and a former Chi Omega Sister. Kathy was also a member of P.E.O., American Legion Auxiliary #318, and member of a bunco club.
Kathy will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her strong faith and service to her church, her warm infectious smile and her dedication to teaching and working with disadvantaged children, for her ability to accept others for who they are while also being confident and unafraid to share her perspective…even if you didn’t want to hear it, but probably needed to. And for her ability to accept and overcome the many challenges she faced throughout her life.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the Morton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the church and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the church.
