MORTON - Kenneth L. Zimmerman, 87, of Morton, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Hopedale Nursing Home.
He was born on June 29, 1934, in Morton, Ill., to Clarence and Lydia (Staker) Zimmerman. Ken was born again into the family of God in 1975. He married Donna Strunk on December 11,1954. They were married nearly 67 years. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ray and Billy; and one sister, Wilma Bollegar.
Surviving are two children, Heidi (Don) Stuber of Tremont and Dirk (Amy) Zimmerman of Morton; six grandchildren, Caleb (Dana) Stuber of Sweetwater, Texas, Luke (Laura) Stuber of Tremont, Joshua (Morgan) Stuber of Tremont, Rebekah
(Jesse) Sanderlin of Buena Vista, Colo., Parker Zimmerman of Morton, and Grant Zimmerman (fiancé, Maddy Sloane) of East Peoria; twelve great grandchildren, Zechariah, Elinor, Andrew, Violet, Hope, Titus, Annabelle, James, John, Levi Kenneth (named after Ken), Benaiah and Abigail.
Ken was a member of Grace Church in Morton, for many years. More recently, Ken was a member of Northfield Christian Fellowship in Tremont, Ill.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1953.
Ken was a lifetime farmer in Morton and remained a farmer at heart even after retirement. He served on Morton Farmer’s Cooperative Board of Director’s, Morton Park District Commissioner, Morton Township Road Commissioner and served as a Township Trustee, and Tazewell County Zoning Board of Appeals.
Ken was also active in the Tazewell County Republican Party and was honored along with his wife, Donna, as Tazewell County Republican of the year in 2019. Ken and Donna were tour escorts for Peoria Charter Coach for 11 years. Ken also participated in the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Northfield Christian Fellowship Church, 411 W. North St., Tremont. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022, and also from 9 to 9:45 a.m., prior to the service on Saturday, all at the church. Ken's service will be live streamed at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022, via the church website, https://www.northfieldchristian.org/proclaim/live-stream.html. Burial will be at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton, with military funeral honors performed by U.S. Air Force.
Memorials may be made to Northfield Christian Fellowship, Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, or the Rural Home Missionary Association.
