LARRY L. SMITH
MORTON - Larry L. Smith, 78, of Morton, passed away Mon., April 9, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Larry was born Nov. 11, 1939, in Peoria, to Ivan and Vera (Kamp) Smith. Both parents preceded Larry in death.
Surviving are his brother Robert (Yvonne) Smith of Morton; two nieces, Monique (Chris) Weaver of Roscoe, Ill., and Bryanne Schulz of Lincoln, Neb.; and one grandniece and three grandnephews. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
After high school graduation, Larry enlisted in the Army Reserves for several years.
After serving in the Army Reserves, Larry worked at Morton Utilities Department for four years. He then joined the Morton Police Department, where he served 30 years before retiring in 1993. After retiring from the police department, Larry spent 10 years working at Morton High School in Support Services.
Larry was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. For over 15 years, he enjoyed umpiring for softball and baseball games in the Morton area.
He had been a member of Calvary Mennonite Church in Washington. Larry has attended New Castle Bible Church in Mackinaw for many years.

Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Sun., April 15, 2018 at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Phil Somers and Pastor Dennis Schlappi officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Mon., April 16, 2018 at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Castle Bible Church in Mackinaw, or to Peoria Rescue Ministries.
