MORTON - Lester E. Sutter, Jr, 85, of Alta Loma, Cali., formerly of Morton, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018.
Lester was born July 18, 1933, in Peoria, Ill., to Lester E. and Mary Mae (Schmallenberger) Sr. He married Elaine Joyce Owen on Nov. 25, 1955.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine of Alta Loma, Cali; two daughters, Victoria "Vicki" (Dr. James D.) Smith of Alta Loma, Cali. and Virginia "Ginni" (Dr. Kevin L.) Bartlett of Everett, Wash.; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother-in-law.
Lester graduated from Morton High School in 1950. After graduating high school, he attended Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Ill., and Illinois Central College in East Peoria, Ill.
He then worked as a head usher for Andy Frain at Wrigley Field, Soldier Field and the United Center, all in Chicago.
Lester retired as a systems analyst in March 1998 after 40 years of service for Caterpillar Inc.
He was a member of Grace Church in Morton and was a sponsor of Young Life.
A memorial service for both Elaine and Lester Sutter will be held at 10:30 a.m., at Grace Church in Morton on January 18, 2019. Visitation will take place from 9:30-10:15 A.M., prior to the service. Burial will take place at Groveland Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery in Groveland, Ill.
Memorials may be made to Wycliff Bible Translators for Dan and Kathy Petersen or Jean and Joy Viguier, MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship) for David and Ashley Petersen, CRM (Christian Resource Ministries) for Nick and Emily Greenwood or Pacific Church Network for church planting in southern California.
