SHELBY, N.C. – Mark A. Morgan, 72, of Shelby, N.C., formerly of East Peoria, Ill., went home to be with the Lord that he served many years on this Earth, on June 7, 2021.
He was born on May 16, 1949, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Thomas and Frances (Casebeer) Morgan. He married Connie Abernathy in West Terre Haute, Ind., on February 14, 1970.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Connie Jo Morgan; son, Mark Andrew Morgan II; daughter, Beth (Scott) Lund; four grandchildren, Ashley (Ryan) Lancaster, Savannah (Bradley) Keller, Emily Lund, and Hudson Lund; and his brother, Tom (Dorothy) Morgan.
Mark served in the Air National Guard of Indiana from August 1, 1967 to July 31, 1973. He then had a long career in the trucking industry.
In his youth, when not working, he was the life of the party and loved to joke and laugh with family and good friends. Mark loved the outdoors and activities including gardening, and lawn care. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf, bowling and most sports.
He was an active member of Morton Bible Church when he lived in Illinois and taught Sunday School for 18 years. He loved music and would on occasion sing solos and duets during worship services.
He was foremost a family man and loved all of them. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
A Celebration of Life Service was held for a small gathering of family and friends at Liberty Baptist Church in Ellenboro, N.C.
