MORTON — Mary C. Emmons, 81, of Morton, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021, at home.
She was born on April 2, 1940, in Peoria, Ill., to John W. and Jessie (Oberlander) Grether. She married John F. Emmons in Washington, Ill., on October 18, 1959. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1997.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Roger Kujawa of Morton; and her grandson, Adam John Kujawa of Nashville, Tenn.
Mary was a homemaker but also worked part-time as a secretary and bookkeeper for various companies, including Midwest Foundation Corporation in Tremont, Ill. She last worked as secretary in the laboratory at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.
Over the years, Mary and her husband John, owned J & M Sports Shop, Emmons Trophies, and JEM Glass Designs, all in Morton. She was a china painter and past member of Illinois Valley China Art Guild.
Mary adored her grandson and was an avid fan of his musical talent as a violinist.
She was a member of Morton Community United Church of Christ, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2021, with Pastor Jane Courtright officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.
