Michael A. Schmidt

Washington - Michael A. Schmidt, 33, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
He was born on March 27, 1984, in Peoria, to Mark and Candace (Payne) Schmidt.
Surviving are his mother and step-father, Candy and Doug Smay of Washington; his sister, Nicole (Todd) Ward of Shirley, Ill.; his maternal grandmother, Marilyn (Jim) Payne-Behme of Morton; his step-brother, Jason Smay of Washington and his aunts and uncles, John and Lynn Harper and Andy and Robin Payne, all of Morton and Randy and Carla Payne of Chattanooga, Tenn. and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Schmidt; his maternal grandfather, Darrell Payne and his paternal grandparents, Herman and Maxine Schmidt.
He was currently a student working toward a degree in heating and air conditioning.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Retreat & Refresh Stroke Camp in Peoria, Ill.

Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
