Norman James Logue, 96, of Eureka, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.
He was born on May 25, 1924, in Fayette County, Ill., to Harold and Ethel (Goodson) Logue. He married Betty Lou Stone on August 1, 1948. She preceded him in death on February 2, 1987. He was also preceded in death by one son, Alan Logue; one grandson, Trevor Logue; one daughter-in-law, Tracy Logue; one brother, Bill Logue; and one sister, Jennie Alice Harner.
Surviving are three sons, Kerry (Barbara) Logue of St. Louis, Mo., Tom Logue of Decatur, Ill. and Wayde (Gaylene) Logue of Congerville; one daughter, Tammy (Dennis) Hilst of Manito; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Logue of Goodfield; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley Azman of Alton, Ill.
Norman served in the Navy in WWII. He was stationed in Hawaii.
He worked for 37 years for Caterpillar, Inc. before retiring. Norman was a member of the NRA, a coin collector and a charter member of Oak Grove Bible Church in East Peoria. There is a beautiful wooden cross that Norman made hanging on the wall behind the pulpit.
He enjoyed home cooked meals, riding his Harley and helping out. He spent most of his days after retirement at his son Wayde’s home and business just doing what needed to be done. He helped build many a race car and only missed going to a few races with Wayde.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Oak Grove Bible Church in East Peoria, with Wayde Logue and Pastor Jerry Rupp officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:15 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Oak Grove Evangelical Bible Church Cemetery in East Peoria, where full military honors will be conducted.
The family would like to thank the staff at Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka for their above and beyond excellent care of Norman. Several staff members said how much they enjoyed taking care of him. Anyone who visited Norman remembers him saying, “Don’t pray to get old!”
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made Living Alternatives Women’s Pregnancy Center in Pekin or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
