Nova Shafer

MORTON – Nova D. Shafer, 90, of Morton, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022, at UnityPoint Methodist in Peoria.

She was born on September 26, 1932, in Noble, Ill., to General Edgar and Sallie (Montgomery) Martin. She married Gary Shafer on March 24, 1951, in Noble, Ill. He preceded her in death on June 11, 2021. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by three sons, Michael (Julie) Shafer of Morton, Richard (Linda) Shafer of Fort Collins, Colo. and Larry Shafer of Morton; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Nova worked for Caterpillar, Inc. from 1954 to 1958 in the East Peoria office. She was a cook at Grundy Elementary School in Morton for 15 years, retiring in 1981. Nova last worked as a sales clerk at The Confectionary in Morton, retiring in 2009.

We will remember her for her joy and love in baking and making Christmas candies.

She attended Noble United Methodist Church and later was a member of Community United Church of Christ in Morton.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial of cremated remains will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
