OLIVER C. KING
MORTON - Oliver C. King, 94, of Morton, passed away peacefully into his heavenly home with his family at his side on Wed., Dec. 27, 2017 at UnityPoint Health Methodist in Peoria.
Oliver was born on March 30, 1923 in Chenoa, Ill., the son of Joseph B. and Katie M. (Roggy) King. Oliver graduated from Toluca High School in 1941. He married Edith I. (Roth) King on Nov. 24, 1946 at Bethel Mennonite Church in rural Pekin. They were married 67 years until she preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 2013.
Surviving are two daughters, Lois King of Morton and Mary Ellen (Darrell) Andris of Normal; two sons, David (Gladys) King and Daniel (Doris) King, both of Morton; eight grandchildren, Philip Andris of Waunakee, Wisc., Jason (Emily) Andris of Bloomington, Ryan (Amanda) Andris of Carlock, Matthew King of Urbana, Eric (Kristina) King of Morton, Darla (Randy) Aberle of Gibson City, Darcy (Billy) Bassett of Newnan, Ga., and Diana (Curt) Vincent of Morton; and seven great-grandchildren, Jade, Rachel, Carrie, Landon, Leighton, Natalie, Brooklyn, and twins on the way.
Oliver was preceded in death by seven brothers, Floyd, Alvin, Lloyd, Harold, Harley, Myrle and Joe; two sisters, Blanche Stutzman and Elaine Schirer.
Oliver and Edith operated their family farm around the Morton area for many years, later expanding to Woodford and McLean Counties. As a life long farmer, he was diligent in caring for and improving his farm ground and instilled the values of hard work to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Into his retirement, he continued to be involved in the family farm, last operating the combine when he was 85 years old. His life centered around his faith and family. He and Edith enjoyed many winters in Arizona, cherishing long lasting friendships that were established there.
He was a member of the Tazewell County Farm Bureau, First Mennonite Church of Morton, a former member of Bethel Mennonite Church of Pekin, and an Illinois Mennonite Relief Sale volunteer for many years.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m., with a funeral service following at 11 a.m., Sat., Dec. 30, 2017 at First Mennonite Church in Morton. Pastor Aaron Yoder will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Mennonite Cemetery in rural Tremont.
