MORTON – Robert E. Goggins, 90, of Morton, Ill., passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
Bob was born on July 5, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wis., to James H. and Anna (Larson) Goggins. He married the love of his life, Ruth E. Limback on March 3, 1953, in St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Manito, Ill., while serving in the U.S. Air Force. She passed into Glory on July 21, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, James W. Goggins; and son-in-law, Harry M. LaHood III.
He is survived by his children, Glenn (Barbara) Goggins of Morton, Jim (Jackie) Goggins of O’Fallon, Mo., Julie (Ray) Porter of Elk Grove, Calif., Ruth LaHood of Morton, Carol (Jeff) Hasler of Schaumburg, Ill., and Roberta (Bart) Ridings of Morton; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and brother, Gary Goggins of Milwaukee, Wisc.
Bob enjoyed and valued his years of education, beginning with the Class of 1950 at Boys Technical High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Bob joined the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War, and received advanced training as a ground radio technician receiving his honorable discharge in 1955. After the Air Force he received further training with IBM as a field engineer. Bob enjoyed a challenging and satisfying career in data processing working for Caterpillar as a computer systems analyst. He then went with Illinois Mutual Insurance as D.P. manager. Bob moved into his banking career by starting a new company, Central Illinois Data Corp. in 1965, later forming the data center for the Jefferson Bank. Bob retired after 20 years as a Senior Vice President in 1988 from Jefferson Bank.
Bob has always been thankful for his working career and the path that God's blessings provided. Bob was most aware that his career provided an opportunity to care for the most important of God's
blessings in his life and that was his family. Bob enjoyed sharing with everyone his life's story about how he met the love of his life, Ruth, while in the Air Force. God blessed their years together with a loving and growing family.
