MORTON - Robert G. "Bob" Hovland, 75, passed away peacefully Tues., Dec. 12, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Bob was born May 9, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Palmer and Betty (Collier) Hovland.
He will be missed by his beloved wife, Sharon, of 54 years. They were married on July 27, 1963 in White Bear Lake, Minn. Also surviving are his two daughters, Angela (Kevin) Benjamin and Laura (Bob) Cummins; three grandchildren, Megan and Craig Cummins and Sara Benjamin; his brother, Paul (Jean) Hovland; and sister, Susan (Lee) Zehner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Nancy Hovland.
Bob had a successful career for 33 years with IBM and enjoyed retirement for 20 years.
He was actively involved at Blessed Sacrament Church, a Eucharistic Minister for The Homebound and a member of the Forth Degree Knights of Columbus.
His life revolved around his family and he treasured time at his cabin in Minnesota where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Sat. Dec. 16, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, 225 E. Greenwood St., Morton, IL 61550. Msgr. Gerald Ward will officiate. Visitation will also be held at the church on Fri., Dec. 15 from 5 to 7 p.m., with an additional visitation held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) are appreciated.
