Samuel Wegman

MORTON – Samuel W. Wegman, 100, of Morton, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at UnityPoint Health Methodist in Peoria.

He was born on August 29, 1922, in Deer Creek, Ill., to John and Lena (Heiniger) Wegman. He married Rosemary Jacob in Morton, Ill., on August 22, 1948.

Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Wegman of Morton; five sons, Larry (Cheryl) Wegman of Mackinaw, Ill., Steve (Ruth) Wegman of Champaign, Ill., Dave (Karen) Wegman of Normal, Ill., John (Sara) Wegman of Cayuga, Ind. and Scott (Dawn) Wegman of Taylor, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Rylan Smith; and two sisters, Louise Rowell and Wilma Stoller.

Sam was a United States Navy veteran. He was superintendent at Union High School in Biggsville, Ill., District 115. In 1984, he retired to the farm in Mediapolis, Iowa.

Sam was a member of Apostolic Christian Church in Tremont, Ill., where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022, with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Further visitation will be held at the church on Thursday prior to the service from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Burial will be at Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.
