WILLIAM H. "BILL" JONES, SR.
MORTON - William H. "Bill" Jones, Sr., 89, of Morton, passed away into the arms of his Savior on Fri., May 11, 2018 at Aperion Care Morton Villa.
Bill was born Dec. 24, 1928 in Omaha, Neb. to Ralph and Laura (Flood) Jones. He married Dorothy "Dottie" Brouer on June 23, 1951 in Western Springs, Ill. She preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2006. He later married Gail Hopp on Jan. 22, 2012 in Tucson, Ariz.
Surviving are his wife Gail of Morton; three daughters, Debbie (Ross) VanDettum of Springfield, Ill., Cheri (Scott) Monroe of Morton, and Lauri (John) VanDerVoorn of East Peoria; four step-children, Scott (Peggy) Thomas of Westfield, Mass., Dave (Lisa) Thomas and Mike Thomas, both of Tucson, and Sharon (Jeff) Mylan of Phoenix, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Tom (Nancy) Jones of Omaha, Neb.; sister Barb Bergmann of Pekin; and daughter-in-law Melody Jones of Morton;
Bill was preceded in death by his son William H. "Skip" Jones, Jr. and brother Bob Jones.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served from 1946 to 1948. Bill graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1952. He was an active member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Bill worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 33 years, retiring in 1985 as a supervising electrical engineer.
There were many things Bill enjoyed in life. With the help of Jim Barton, Bill started Boy Scout Troop 178 and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award. As part of his passion for electrical engineering, Bill was also involved in the Instrumentation Systems and Automation Society. He was known for his love of Ford vehicles and as a SCUBA instructor for Aqua Diving School in Morton. Bill always looked forward to fishing trips to Deer Lake, Minn. and dive trips around the world.
Bill never knew a stranger and always had a smile, firm hand shake, or warm hug to offer. Those who knew Bill will miss his uplifting, encouraging, and caring nature.

He was a dedicated member of Morton United Methodist Church, where he served as a church usher. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Sat., June 2, 2018. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gary L. Feldman and Rev. Gabe Wanck officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Memorials may be made to Morton United Methodist Men for Boy Scout Troop 178 or to Morton United Methodist Church Building Fund.
